Soapstone (or steatite) is a metamorphic rock composed mainly of talc.  This naturally quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, soapstone is a very dense stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Since soapstone is non-porous, it will not stain and is impermeable to liquids.  Natural soapstone is available in shades of grey.
